Ideas for the 1st weekend of Spring in Tuscany

Trees are in bloom, the sun is shining bright and temperatures are very pleasant: Spring has finally arrived in Tuscany!

Take a look at all the events organized in Tuscany for this first weekend of Spring, the calendar is full of many various types of proposals.

It starts with VerdeMura, an exhibition of plants, flowers, garden furniture and products organized within the town-walls of Lucca. The exhibition starts today and continues until Sunday 27.

Then several events dedicated to sweets or flea markets and antiques. While sports fans, particularly motorbike-lovers, will have the chance to participate in the Mugello Motor Fest at the Mugello International Circuit in Scarperia. On Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 visitors can also have the chance to test bikes by the most famous worldwild motorcycle manufacturers. You’ll find all the information on the official website of event.

October will end soon and on Saturday night we will have to turn back the clock  to the solar time. This means that we will sleep one hour more :) but we’ll lose one hour of day light :( I recommend you take note and don’t forget to turn back your clock!

This last weekend in October is also the Halloween weekend. If you still don’t know what to do I recommend you read our suggestions for spending the Halloween weekend in Florence.

In Tuscany there are other events such as the last appointments with autumn and food festivals in Mugello. In addition in Barberino del Mugello from Saturday October 30th to Monday November 1st there will be the Market fair of black and white truffle. Read more »

Weekend in Lucca and Viareggio

This weekend I want to escape from Florence. Maybe because this week has been really hot, but I need a break from Florence’s heat.

Viareggio on the coast. We’ll be there for dinner because I want to eat seafood on the beach at sunset. After dinner some night shopping along the “Passeggiata”, one of the most famous shopping streets in Versilia. From April 16 to the 25th the 12th European Culture Week will be taking place all over Italy and Europe and thus in Tuscany as well. The event, successfully organized by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities, opens State museums, monuments, archeological sites, archives and libraries, both for Italian and foreign visitors with free entrance.

In Italy there will be over 2900 events during the week, with over 200 just in Tuscany. Free guided tours, as well as special exhibits and events, will be organized across the region, such as the extraordinary opening of the Gardens at Villa La Pietra and its Acton Collection.

The European Culture Week is certainly a unique occasion to discover and visit unique Italian masterpieces, as well as hidden Tuscan treasures enriching your unforgettable holidays in Tuscany. Aside from free entrance into state museums, you can enjoy a full schedule of events.

Discover Secret Tuscany

As usual there will take place the wonderful FAI di Primavera. The event is organized by Fondo Italiano per l’Ambiente (FAI – Italian Fund for Environment), a no-profit organization preserving and promoting Italian cultural heritage, and will open to public almost 600 Italian hidden treasures. Forbes magazine recently published “Europe’s Most Idyllic Places to Live” with a raking of five favorite simple, unspoiled and near-heavenly locations to take up residence in Europe according to a panel of experts in the fields of travel and relocation.

Lucca came in second place, a charming medieval city in Tuscany, just after the Greek island of Patmos.

Lucca was chosen, according to Forbes, because while it has the charm of other Tuscan towns such as Pisa, it lacks the crowds and confusion. The beautiful, walled medieval city has an enviable geographic location just 45 miles from Florence, about an hour from the Tuscan beaches in one direction and an hour from skiing in Abetone in the other.
