Recommended vegetarian restaurants in Florence

Hi,

do you have any restaurants to recommend in Florence that offer vegetarian menu? Also some Pizzeria would be fine, tough it would be great to taste some typical Tuscan dishes?

Thanks for your help!

Ciao Lota!

Many restaurants offer vegetarian dishes, although choices can be limited mainly to the "primi" or first courses. There are definitely traditional Tuscan dishes you should try!
All pizzerias will have vegetarian options, starting with the most traditional "margherita" pizza to pizzas with just vegetable toppings - most will have a list of the toppings but if in doubt, ask the waiter who can clear up any doubts :)

Getting back to traditional restaurants, the "trattoria" or "osteria" will offer local dishes you should definitely try -- a few suggestions of some delicious traditional dishes: pappa al pomodoro (bread soup with tomatoes, onions and very good basil and olive oil) and ribollita (vegetable soup with bread, called "reboiled" because it gets better the more times it is reheated) as well as pasta with truffles or porcini mushrooms and tortelli with ricotta and spinach in tomato sauce. That combination of ricotta and spinahs is very popular in Florence and Tuscany: Florentine "crepes" (crespelle in Italian) are filled with ricotta and spinach and covered in a smooth, velvety bechamel sauce. Take a look at the menus generally located outside the restaurants, you'll find several offerings for vegetarians
Note: Closer to Siena, try the Pici all'agliata - handmade spaghetti with a tomato sauce and lots of garlic - delicious!! :)

As for restaurants dedicated just to vegetarians, in Florence the most popular one is called Il Vegetariano on Via delle Ruote - their website has some info on the dishes and location: http://www.il-vegetariano.it/

Another more recent place catering to vegetarians and vegans is called La Raccolta and a bit further out from the main historical center. You can view their location and some reviews on the Google map page.

Hope these suggestions are useful, you'll see you won't have problems finding good vegetarian options at the local trattoria you try out! Buon appetito! :D

pizza florence

Despite its garish marketing and anglisized name 'Pizzaman' is really quiet good. In terms of quality of service, food and price I can't think of any better in Florence. Il Pizzaiolo is also fine, but can get busy and you may have to wait outside even if 'booked'.

Restaurants in Florence are geared up for tourists-every restaurant will have a few options for you.

Agree with Alice above that Pizza Man offers good pizzas (selection is small), just all of their locations are outside of the historical center and so a bit harder for visitors to get to.
Pizzaiuolo is definitely good, but its small and sometimes you do have to wait outside while they clear tables, even when booked.

There are so many choices in Florence as restaurants go, most all will have several vegetarian options although after a few days they might often be very similar.
