Suitable base for 7 dayholiday in Tuscany
Thank you for this wonderful website which has wealth of information.
We want to visit Tuscany in 2 weeks time and will be spending 7 days. This will be our first visit and looking for a suitable base from which we can do day trips to capture the most interesting aspects of what seems to be a fabulous area of Italy. Initially we were thinking of base in Florence. We like to do a day trip to Venice also. Our main interest is to visit different scenic villages and places including Pisa, Florence. We are from UK and wondering if hiring a car for 3-4 days would be a good option. Could you please help with suggesting a suitable base and an itinerary.

Base for 7 days in Tuscay
Tuscany is a very beautiful region, wherever you decide to stay, it will be a wonderful place.
I suggest you to choose as a base a small and quiet village or a place in the countryside. Sovicille, for example, is at only 13 kms from Siena. Around Sovicille there are a lot of charming farmhouses or B&B.
Hiring a car is certainly a very good idea, so you'll see a lot of the typical countryside.
From Sovicille it will take you 80 kms to reach Florence, 120 kms to reach Pisa, only 40 kms for San Gimignano, the famous Chianti area is at only 30 kms and the Val d'Orcia at about 50 kms.
I wish you a very nice holiday!
