Upscale accommodation outside Siena

This site has been a great resource for the planning of our 7 day trip to Tuscany in the fall of 2013. We plan to rent a car in Florence and drive south along S-222, stopping by either Greve or Castellina, to stay for 4 nights in a central area for day trips to Siena, Montepulciano, and Volterra. We would like to stay in the countryside and thought just outside of Siena may work well. I am looking for suggestions for more upscale accommodations, but preferably no more than 175 euros per night.

We will be driving back to Florence to drop off the car and to spend a couple of days there at the end of the trip. I am also looking for suggestions for accommodations in Florence as well.

Thank you in advance for advice and recommendations.

Chianti is ideal central location

ciao Therrissa,

Glad you've found our site useful and hope it can continue to be a resource for you as you plan your trip!

Plan sounds very good! Any place between Florence and Siena would be perfect as it would be very central.
I'm thinking it is just 2 of you and you want to stay someplace romantic too?
Are you interested in having a place where you're able to cook for yourself such as in an apartment or rather just a hotel or B&B?

here are some specific places I'd recommend you take a look at:

And in Florence these:

What do you think? In the meantime, hope you have a great start to 2013!! :)

Lourdes,
Happy New Year. Thank you for your suggestions. Palazza Malespina and Borgo della Meliana are especially appealing to me. The Palazza Malespina looks very charming. Regarding apartments, we have rented them in the past, but had mixed results Still, if you have any you can suggest I would certainly be open to them.

For Florence, I really liked the look of the Casa del Garbo.

I sincerely appreciate your assistance and recommendations.

some more suggestions for apartments

Glad you found some of the suggestions helpful! The Borgo della Meliana are apartments, as is the Podere Cunina. Many times they pretty much leave you on your own after checkin for your whole stay, so it really depends on what you're looking for. The Meliana is run more like a resort so you should have both privacy as well as a general area you can go to for questions and additional services.

I am finally booking our summer vacation. I did choose the Villa Antea for our stay in Florence. I am strongly considering the Palazaao Malaspina for the rest of the week, but my husband would really like to have accommodation with a kitchen. The Borgo della Meliani is only renting by the week in September, as are most of the other non B&B's recommended. Do you have any other suggestions?

With sincere thanks and warmest regards,
Therrissa

kitchen...

You're right, September is still generally high season so many of the apartments will not be rented for less than a week.

Have you tried contacting Maria at Palazzo Malaspina? I think I remember her saying she also had an apartment down the street from the B&B so maybe you should ask whether this is an option for September?

Another possibility is this one:http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/casolare-di-libbiano.html - another B&B but also have an apartment not on the same property still close to San Gimignano.
And another this one: http://poggiale.it/ - the main villa is a hotel but the family room has a kitchenette.

I'm going to have to think some more and see if I remember any others who offer apartments for less than a week in September... they do in October for sure, so maybe you can still try contacting them and ask?
