Accommodation for Family Holiday on Tuscan Coast

Hi

We have been to Tuscany a couple of times and have stayed in the Chianti region. This year we would like to head to the coast as we have two young children who enjoy the beach. Can anyone recommend some good areas to look at which are child friendly and have nice sandy beaches?

Also looking for villa recommendations for June 2014 for 2 weeks. We will have car so don't need to be right by the beach as we are happy to drive to the beach if it means that we get a slightly more private villa with a pool.

Thanks

Claire

Dear Claire,
Tuscany has plenty of coast areas perfect for children.
Versilia is characterized by long sandy beaches, all equipped with sunchairs and beach umbreallas, bar, restaurants, children playgrounds and sometimes also outdoor pools. There is everything you may need to spend a whole day at the seaside.
To be more exactly, Versilia is the name of the coastline; the locations you need to look for are Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore and Forte dei Marmi to mention the more renowned (in the province of Lucca). All these places have shops, markets, pharmacies reachable by easy walking distances from anywhere you decide to lodge.

There's another area of the Tuscan coast which I think is perfect for families with children: the Etruscan coast, that is all that coastline South of Livorno.
In Livorno as well there are marvellous sea spots, but they are mainly rocky, not the perfect solution for young children.
On the contrary, Vada, Castiglioncello, Cecina, Marina di Bibbona and Donoratico are those who best suit the needs of a family with children. There, you'll find as well equipped sandy beaches and all the main services you may need at an easy walking distance from hotels, B&B or independent apartments.
