Canopy beds or charming boutique hotels in Florence???

We are spending 9 nights in Tuscany and are looking for recommendations in Florence (3 nights) and 4 more nights ... where? ... We also have reservations for 2 nights at Aia Mattonata in Siena. I'm partial to canopy beds and charming boutique hotels or B&Bs. Can you make recommendations for a location in Florence center? Lourdes, do you know of any? I'm wondering whether to go to Cinque Terra? We'll definitely see San Gimignano. Not sure whether to stay there or go from Aia Mattonata. I think we'll rent a car for the country drives.
Thank you for any suggestions.

Ciao Ellen,

For pretty B&Bs with canopy beds (or just really nice B&Bs) in Florence, check out these:

Where do you arrive, into Florence? Are you planning to have the car the whole time you're in Tuscany once you leave Florence? Since you're planning to divide time between Florence, Siena and somewhere else, you could stay in the area to the south of Siena (where car is needed) and enjoy that part of Tuscany, in either the Crete Senesi or Val d'Orcia. When are you coming?
You could enjoy an apartment if you're coming in the off-season, such as the beautiful Podere Cunina
or San Giovanni in Poggio or further south near the border with Umbria at Camporsevoli.

Cinque Terre would make sense if you decide to head away from Siena and instead head toward Pisa or Lucca. You could definitely do that as well, it just really depends on what your plans are in general.

Thanks so much for responding, Lourdes. We'll be there May 12 - 21 this year, flying in and out of Florence. We'd thought about going to Pisa also for a day trip so I guess we could go to Cinque Terra from there for a night or 2 before returning to Florence. We thought we'd have a car upon leaving Florence.

Yep, you could do Florence, then Pisa and Cinque Terre and then return to Florence/Siena.
You could wait to get the car until you return to Florence the second time, as you don't really need the car in either Pisa nor the Cinque Terre and just use the train to get there. Check out train timetables at www.trenitalia.com.
