Hi There
We're a party of 6 adults who will be visiting the Chianti area in August 2015 for the first time. Are looking for recommendations for places to stay where we can drive to the various wineries and places of interest in the area. Renting a car in Florence and driving through the region. Open to any and all suggestions. See lots of places on various sites but looking for recommendations or posts from members who've stayed in the area. Thanks,
Cindy K

Dear Cindy,
Chianti is a wonderful region to explore, everywhere you decide to go is a sort of room vith a view on the rolling hills that maybe you've seen thousand and thousand of times on postcards! I suggest you rent a car in Florence (you'll be landing there, won't you?) and drive all along the panoramic route Chiantigiana that cross the Chianti area. While driving, you may see what you like most and stop for exploring the quaint villages and do some wine-and-food tasting.
Panzano in Chianti is a very pictoresque village to visit. There you'll find the famous Antica Macelleria Cecchini, where you'll find the unique Panzanese steak, a MUST if you drop by there. Moreover, close to the Macelleria you'll find the restaurant, where you'll be invited to taste their own meat, cooked in the real Tuscan way.
Another restaurant I suggest you try is in Strada in Chianti, called Da Padellina, personally recommended :)

For car rental, have a look at this page http://www.discovertuscany.com/tuscany-car-rental/
and I'm sure you'll find these information very useful: http://www.visitflorence.com/florence-car-rental/

Here we've listed some articles about Chianti, with useful tips for moving around the region, what to see and where to go: http://www.chianti.com/

Here instead, you'll find a selection of accommodation in the Chianti area we've personally reviewed:

I hope all these information will be helpful for planning your next trip to Tuscany :)

Look up hotels in Greve. In the heart of Chanti and close to Florence. We rent a place in Montrspertoli about 10 miles west of Greve. Its a Good centeral point in tuscany

My experience

Actually I am from Italy but last year I spent one week in an amazing place near chianti, directly in the middle of the Tuscany Hills.
It is called "Agriturismo Fattoria Castiglionchio" , I had really a good time there.
You can find a swimming pool, a lot of activities (tennis, mountan-bike ride, vespa's ride, horse ride, bar-restaurant, real tuscany wine tasting and so on) and it is really a huge place! There is also a castle inside!
The apartment was really nice and also the staff..I suggest it to you!

Have a safe trip!

Ciao Cindy,

for a stay in Chianti i suggest you Erboli Residence at Cavriglia, a nice holiday house with pool and 14 apartments for 2, 4 and 6 person.

Other great facilities that I know and I can advise you, are the Farmhouse Anna in Greve in Chianti, a farmhouse with swimming pool and rooms with Jacuzzi, and the B&B Cavarchino in Gaiole in Chianti.
