7 days in Tuscany

Hi there

It was great to see this forum.

My wife & I are travelling from Australia to visit Italy in late June-first week July.
We fly into Rome (29th June) and will be flying out from Rome (7th July).
We are hoping to spend the first 7 days in Tuscany and then the last 2 nights in Rome. We will be renting a car.
We would appreciate some recommendations on where to stay. We'd prefer to stay in a self contained apartment (preferrably with pool access) in the beautiful Tuscan countryside - hopefully with easy access by car to the various beautiful places that Tuscany has to offer.

WOW - that is a tall order, there are so many places you could base yourself depending on what you really want to explore while in Tuscany.

My apologies for being so broad - this is our first visit to Italy and totally unfamiliar territory for us .
The information available online is a bit overwhelming!

We are hoping to do a few day trips - one to Florence, one to Siena and one to Pisa. Welcome to a few suggestions here too.

Do these places still work from that perspective? Any particular regions to keep in mind when looking for accommodation?

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried contacting these but looks like the dates are not available.
I had a few different posts and really liked places Romitorio di Serelle, Fattoria Viticcio - but unfortunately they are booked out too.

Would anyone be able to recommend similar to these places - preferrably apartments with kitchens?

I know it is kind of broad, but for the places you want to go to you can really position yourself almost anywhere.

I personally would look closer to Val d'Orcia ... but there are some really valid places even closer to Florence (Fattoria il Lago or http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/...a-i-ricci.html) .. both of which I have visited. They are quality accommodations with great panoramic views.

From Tuscany we were planning to go to Rome and spend 2 days before we fly out from Rome back to Australia.
Which part of Rome would you recommend staying in? Is it better to hold on to our rental car? Would it be easier to find parking?

In Rome, I would stay central - you can walk or take bus to most of the main sights, using the metro for longer distances. We always end up walking since everything is really close to each other, but at the end of the day, you've walked a lot!

Rome is hellish as far as driving and parking goes, so by staying central you won't need it at all - I would say return it and enjoy Rome sans car.

In Rome I would definitely get rid of the car!! Even the Italians don’t like to drive in Rome. In fact, I always prefer to stay in the city center close to one of the “sites” so when I go, I take the train from Florence - I think it is the fastest and easiest way to get around...even if I am dragging my luggage along with me!
