Agriturismo or Small Town Apartment?

Let me start by saying in my first post that I think this is a great forum for info on Tuscany.

I have been to Italy twice but it was to Rome both times. I am planning a trip for March 2017 to Tuscany. I am debating whether to stay at an agriturismo near Greve in Chianti or a town house in Montalcino. I already know that I am not going to be able to see everything I want to no matter how much time I had, so location is irrelevant. However I was curious what others thought about staying slightly outside a town/village vs staying in a small village.

Can I go wrong either way?

greve vs montalcino

Buongiorno,

I live near Greve in Chianti - and as charming as the town is, I have to admit that in the winter, especially in the evenings, the town is very, very, very quiet. In particular many restaurants are closd and even bars and cafes. Perhaps Montalcino would have a little more activity about it. If you haven’t been in this area before it would also provide many opportunities for new days trips exploring many hidden corners of Tuscany
(this article provides a suggested itinerary https://www.discovertuscany.com/what-to-see-in-tuscany/cetona.html)

Even the thermal water pools ( https://www.discovertuscany.com/valdorcia/hot-springs-bagni-san-filippo.html) are fun in the cooler months!

Buon Viaggio,

Hey Donna, thanks for the reply. Upon doing a little further digging I am finding out exactly what you said that unless you are in Sienna or Florence, nothing really begins until April 1.

Would Greve or Radda be a little more active it we pushed the trip into say the second week of April?

Is April More Active?

Hello -

you do start to get a bit more movment and events especially on the weekends. But week nights are still pretty calm. However, keep in mind if you have a car, Florence really is only a short drive away...about 40 minutes - so its not impossible to find something to do.

check out our article on April events which will give you an idea on things that repeat every year (there isn't a whole lot...but...) :

Check out my article about restaurants in Chianti, several are realy very close to Greve and many of these are always open because they cater to the locals more than they do the tourists. Especially number 1, 2, 6 and 9
