Smile Visiting for 4 weeks...where to stay?

An extended trip to Tuscany has always been on my bucket list... now that I'm in my 60's, it's time to start crossing things off that list!

I want to come to Tuscany in June-August and stay in a place where I can walk into town, shop at fresh markets and take a cooking class or two.

I don't want to be in a secluded area as I will be alone, but I don't want to be in Florence either... I've been there and while it's lovely, it's just too busy.

I've also been to La Badia di Orvieto in the Umbrian countryside which again is beautiful, but I didn't see a town that I could walk to.

If you could offer any suggestions for me, I'd appreciate it!

Default Coming for a long period of time

    Buongiorno,

First I would like to suggest if you are coming to Tuscany to soak in some local culture and "atmosphere", why don't you consider coming in the slower months like April, May, June or even May, June and July. August is high season and, keeping in mind what you said about Florence, there are many tourists buzzing about. Changing your dates a bit will also change your budget In addition to a better price, you will find longer sunlight hours and normally comfortable temps.

As for accommodations where you can walk into the city/town/restaurants and markets, these are a few that come to mind:
