Travel from Montelupo Fiorentino

A group of us are staying in a villa near Montelupo Fiorentino and need to drive into Florence for tour pick ups. After reading the horror stories about parking and fines, we need some advice on the best way(s) to get to our pick-up points. The locations are:

Deanna bar Terracafe Station Square corner Santa Caterina da Siena St. (at 6:15 am!) This is a 13 hour trip
Accademia Gallery
Fenice Palace

Advice on parking and transportation will be greatly appreciated.

train or car+tram

So you do have a car but don't want to drive it into Florence?

The best and easiest solution is to just drive into Montelupo Fiorentino and take the train from there! :D
you'll arrive right into Santa Maria Novella and the Deanna Bar/Terracafe' is right outside (exit the station to the right as you arrive from the tracks).

You can check train schedules on trenitalia.com
The Montelupo station is called "Montelupo-Capraia"........
now this works for your day in Florence ONLY because trains start running around 6am from Montelupo so you won't arrive in Florence in time for the tour you have at 6:15am.

On that day, you can drive your car to Scandicci to the Nenni-Torregalli tram stop (there is a large COOP supermarket right across and you can park there) then take the tram stop to SMN train station (end of the line in the center of Florence). The tramvia starts running at 5am so you're set to go - check time tables here: http://www.gestramvia.it/

Hello,
I've just read this thread of conversation and as I'm about to visit Florence with my family in 2 days and have rented a house in Bobolino -which is actually very close to Montelupo Fiorentino- I would like to ask whether Lourde's advice concerning both the train and the tram options are still valid.

Thank you in advance

Tram for Florence

Buongiorno,

Have a look at this link which will give you the time frame - you want to look at Firenze - Alamanni, which is next to the SMN Firenze train station.

other wise follow the directions for the train, if you leave early enough in the morning there are several options and in 30 minutes you are in the city center of Florence.

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise

Hello,
Thank you! That was very helpful.
One last question. Are there any car parks in Scandicci that we could leave our rented car at or could we still park at the COOP like it was mentioned above?

parking lot

Hi -

the Nenni-Torregalli tram stop is still located in front of a very large parking lot (connected to the supermarket Coop) (if you go to Google maps and put in "Nenni - Torregalli, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence" you will see how there is even a cross walk.)

This is the closets and thus the easiest place to leave your car.

A presto,

Donna Denise
