fall colors in October
Ciao Leslie,
Yes, the Val d'Orcia has very distinct colors every season but generally the very green season is April-June with spring and rain. A lot of the area is planted with grain so then it turns yellow and is harvested in August/September - and left in the fields in those large rolled stacks you've seen in photos of Tuscany.... in October, I remember seeing mostly yellow and browns, as the fields were being ploughed to let them breathe. Of course there is still green areas as well, particularly areas where sheep graze. It was still very beautiful so I wouldn't put off visiting in October because it isn't very green ;-).
