Hi all

Looking for suggestions where to stay in Tuscany. We will be renting a car in Venice and driving to Tuscany. We are thinking of the Sienna area but are wondering if anyone has any recommendations on towns near Sienna. Is this a good area to stay? We will want to go to Florence, Sienna and some other small towns in Tuscany and maybe the Italian coast? We have stayed in Venice for a week and toured northern Italy and have also been to Rome and Florence before. We really want a place with a pool for the kids and preferably within walking distance to a downtown area. Also what towns do you think are must sees for this area?

Thanks all!!

The area that surrounds Siena is a wonderful place to stay. When you see a Tuscan postcard, it is surely a representaion of Valdorcia landscape! You're close to Siena and Florence, as well as to the other smaller towns of the zone that actually you should visit, like Castiglione d'Orcia (declared a Unesco World Heritage Site), San Quirico d'Orcia, Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano, renowned for their prestigious wines.

Have a look at this post for more information about Val d'Orcia and what to see once you get there.
You could stay at Podere Cunina just to give you an example, a wonderful farmhouse with pool surrounded by the green Tuscan hills at just two kms away from downtown (Buonconvento).

Otherwise have a look at this page about lodgings in Siena and its surroundings: all the area is plenty of accommodation immersed in nature and located close to towns.

The beaches of the Maremma coasts are at about one hour driving distance, so you'll easily get there with a day trip.
