I will be spending 8 days in July in Tuscany with my husband and two sons ages 10 and 8. it is our first time in Italy and we will be renting a car. I would like to have a home base with a pool. I have read nice things about Lucca and wondering if we should look for a place around there or should we be looking for a more central location in Tuscany, like Siena. We are planning this trip to be as kid friendly as possible. Beaches, walking, eating, sight seeing, relaxing. I really want to keep it simple and fun. We are also going to Rome and Venice for a few days before and after Tuscany.

Montespertoli

Hi,
I would really suggest to find an accomodation in Montespertoli. It's a small village in the Empolese valdelsa area, the heart of Tuscany: 20 min. from Florence, 45 min. from Pisa and Lucca, 25 min. from San Gimignano and 45 min. from Siena, 20 min. from Vinci and Certaldo .......
The main attractions in Montespetoli are the wonderful typical landscape of the central part of Tuscany (sweet hills, vineyards, olive groves, cypresses) and the wine: Chianti di Montespertoli.
There're many Agriturismo and farmhouses in the area around the village in the countryside, most of them have a pool and terraces with stunning views.
The area is perfect for those who enjoy walking and love a peaceful holiday and at the same time would like to visit the famous cities and villages in Tuscany . Around the village you can also find lots of wineries for wine and food tasting and charming medieval castles ( Castello di Poppiano, Castello di Sonnino, Castello di Montegufoni...)

It's a bit weird that tourist office of Montespertoli actually posted above because when I read your post yesterday I immediately thought of recommending 2 farmhouses that are very kid-friendly and both are near Montespertoli!!

The area would definitely be a bit more central but still close enough to the coast to spend some time at the beach and if you have a pool, even more fun times when you are at the farmhouse...
so here are two in the area I recommend in particular:

http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/agriturismo-montalbino.html - has animals too!!

http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/podere-casanova.html - pizza night where kids have fun cooking for everyone :)

http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/agriturismo-vernianello.html - this one is actually between Poggibonsi and Castellina in prime Chianti wine region, and has lots and lots of activities/games/playgrounds for the kids but being in wine region would be great for parents too ;-)

Take a look and post any other questions or doubts.
