Appennine Mountains/Garfagnana

Hi there,
We were originally going to stay at the coast but we have been enchanted by the scenery of the Appennine mountains/Garfagnana region. We've seen some properties to let there but we were just wondering what the mountain roads are like? One propery we've seen is near Capraia and the other Vergemoli.
Are the roads in this area single track and how long would it take to get down to the 'main roads'?
Are the roads a bit nerve-racking or fairly acceptable!!! We're hoping to go at the end of July.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Buongiorno -

The scenery in the Appennine Mountains is absolutely stunning and to be going in the summer will definitely offer lots of opportunity for hiking, enjoying the fresh cool air of the small towns - lots of tranquility and silence.

As far as getting around, the position in the mountains does not really make it the place to go if your holiday vacation objective is to explore Tuscany, it is truly more conducive to a vacation that wants to inhale the "local" scene. The roads are primarily one lane each way -- and the higher up you go they do get a little tighter. My experience is that they are kept in good shape, but just the number of curves is sure to add a bit of time to your traveling.

If you enjoy exploring the back roads, small towns and really being apart of the landscape this area has lots to offer, check this link out for more info: http://www.discovertuscany.com/garfagnana/

Buon viaggio
