Advices needed for my first ever visit to Tuscany - October

Hi!

I am planning a visit to Tuscany for the coming October and for a total of 7 days. I'll rent a car and my favorite hobby is Photography. But beyond that, I like to see places not much as tourist but rather as explorer. I don't like the noisy and crowded cities (although I'll pay a visit to Florence and Pisa) so I would like to stay somewhere in the country side in a place with good views of the area. Unfortunately my budget for the accommodation is limited. Around 60-65€ per day max.

Some questions to the friendly and helpful members of this forum.

Is October full of Autumn colors in the Tuscany ? What's the ambient temperature and weather in the area ? Do I need to get with me some warm clothes ? I don't have much problem with cold, actually, I like winter Autumn and Winter much more than spring and summer.

Any suggestions for the accommodation? I would like to stay somewhere in the middle of Tuscany area so I'm able to reach as much places I can in a less time possible. Ideally, I would like to stay in a quiet place with Internet and if possible a breakfast.

I suggest you check out the area Mugello or Casentino- both offer lots of photo opportunities espesially with the fall colors and the price point is usually a little lower - not only because you are off season but also because they are a little off the beaten track.

You will still be able to get some beautiful shots...

I second Donna's proposals of Mugello and Casentino - both offering off-the-beaten track and fall colors, as they both have lots of forest nearby.

I suggest you take a look at these - only the first one is a B&B so breakfast is included, while the others have their own kitchens so you can take care of meals on your own. As you likely already plan to do, to get the best light you'll be up early so you might want to have some breakfast earlier than what the B&B offers ;-)

The whole area of the "Val di Merse" offers a lot of beautiful spots (and it is still an authentic, not very touristic area),... if you like small villages, antique castels, churches and nature, Sovicille could be a nice option. This small village is located only 13 kms from Siena (that is certainly one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany) and staying around Sovicille will give you the possibility to visit easily the wonderful Abbey of San Galgano with the sword in the stone, nice little villages like Chiusdino or Radicondoli. The walled in town of Monteriggioni is also not far away from Sovicille.... if you need more infos, get in touch info@prolocosovicille.it.
