Tuscany in April with young children

We're travelling to Italy in April, spending a couple of days in Florence and then heading to Vicchio for a family wedding. We have a week after that before we fly out of Florence and wondered what might be a suitable itinerary for a family with a 2yr old and 3yr old. We will have a hire car and would like to stay in a couple of different places where we can take day trips.

Kids on Holiday in Tuscany

Buongiorno,

My only experience of dealing with a 2/3 year old in Tuscany was when my sister came to visit me with her three children. The one thing I learned is that you have to give them space - so I quickly learned where all the fun playgrounds were in the small towns that we visited.

Almost every town will have a park area with games and toys that you can stop at after touring the town and small shops. Greve in Chianti is one of my favorite places because they always have so much going on in the main square, there are lots of sweet little cafes and restaurants and you can also visit Montefioralle...but they have a large playground where they often hold big people events.

Buon Viaggio.

I think with a week after, you should plan to stay put in one central area and do day trips, rather than move around as far as accommodation goes. That will give you and your kids the chance to settle in and feel like the place a bit like home (especially since it sounds like you're in Florence first, then in Vicchio for a few days, so you'll already have moved around a bit).

I suggest taking a look at one of these "family-friendly" agriturismo which have lots of space in the garden plus playgrounds and games/toys for the kids, as well as farm animals (the first) that are loved by kids:

They are all pretty central and do have a pool, although in April it might still be cool to really enjoy it much, at least you'll have the option!
