Chianti Classico Wine Festival in Greve - September 2016

Hello :)

We will have three nights near Castellina in Chianti in September. We have just discovered that during this time there is a wine festival taking place in Greve.

Now we have a dilemma. We have a hire car booked. But ideally we'd like to visit Greve for the day without the car, that way we could both enjoy the wine festival (without falling out over who has to drive home!).

Can anyone advise the best way to get to Greve (and back) from Castellina in Chianti?

Our accommodation cannot be changed so that is not an option.

Thank you!

Buongiorno,

unfortunately there aren't many solutions. Castellian and Greve are in two different provinces and are thus served by two different bus lines - which means it is possible if you are able to match up the buses...

but then you have another situation, the buses don't run late...most do their final departure at about 8 pm, and just to add more to the pot, if you are doing this on a weekend you have to watch the times because they are not as frequent on Sundays.

I applaude you wanting to enjoy the festival without worrying about drinking and driving...but at the same time I sympathise with your lack of options.

You can check out our article on Castellina which offers some solutions: https://www.chianti.com/castellina-in-chianti/an-intro-to-castellina.html

You may want to look into a NCC (driver with car) or maybe even check with the accommodations, they might actually have other guests who want to go and you can look into splitting the costs??

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise
