Tuscan honeymoon adventure - help ?

Hi,

I'm getting married next May near Chiusdino...
We are going to be able to spend approx 26 days in Italy visiting some beautiful places. I'm looking for any advice you could provide to make it as romantic and rustic as possible for me and my wife-to-be while we are in Tuscany !

We know we will be flying into Pisa.
We plan on staying near Florence for 2 nights and possibly visit Luca for 1 night.
However, I desperately want to make the most of visiting Chianti and Val D'Orcia. We will have a rental car for the entire time. Unless your advice suggests otherwise.

We visited Tuscany earlier this year to find a wedding venue. We were fortunate enough to visit Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and a vineyard near Foiano Della Chiana.

I would like to visit several Vineyards while in Tuscany (specially chainti region and val d'orcia), possibly a couple of very old and well established ones and one that is perhaps more on the newer and modern possibly specialising in Supertuscan wines.

Also, are there any cookery schools you could recommend, possibly nearer Val D'Orcia ?

I'm hoping not to do too much driving while in Chianti, so I'm open to staying at accommodation either on a vineyard estate or very close to a couple that a bus or taxi would work.

Are there any bars you could highly recommend in Siena for my family to meet up with me at ? I had a couple of drinks on the Piazza del Campo, but I dont know if they are deemed good or bad value (think it was called bar il palio).

Also, are there any towns you simply think I should not miss ? whether it be for food, wine or views of the surroundings.

in regards budget... its still very much open to debate so both luxury and boutique accommodations are not a problem.

one other question... is it possible to hire large taxis in tuscany ? or will they be more likely maximum of 5 people. My family may like to take part in a wine tasting afternoon before we get married but it would require taxis for at least 8 people.

my current itinerary is along the lines of....
Chiusdino (3 nights for wedding with family and friends - small farmhouse already rented)

AREZZO (1 night)
VAL D'ORCIA (3 nights)
Montepulciano, Pienza, Radicofani, Montalcino
LUCCA (1 night)
CHIANTI (3 nights)
SIENA (1 night)
FLORENCE (2 nights somewhere near)
Volterra ? (1 night)
MAREMMA ? (2 nights)

Bologna (1 night)
Venice (2 nights)
Verona (1 night)
Lake Como (2 nights)
Lake Garda (2 nights)

any advice or suggestions would really be appreciated.

thanks
Paul

Buongiorno,

You have selected a great list of places to visit! I have been to Bologna, Venice and Verona and your time frame looks good, but they are really not my area.

As far as your organization goes, I think you could look at basing yourself in one place for a few days so that you are not packing and unpacking every two days. Maybe near Siena where you can do Siena & Chianti

Montepulciano, Pienza, Radiofani are actually in the ValdiChiana (might want to check out Cetona & Chiusi as well in this area) and these areas would combine well with Arezzo….a middle point could be somewhere near Cortona - or even a stay in Montepulciano, in the city center would be fun.

and super romantic would be a visit to the thermal waters at Ban San Filippo...
