Where to base ourselves

Good morning. I will be visiting Tuscany for the first time in June and will be there for 12 nights. I have booked a 6 night stay in Montalacino and wish to stay another 6 nights in the north of the region. I was thinking of Chianti as has been suggested to me. Would this be sensible or would it make sense to stay at montalacino for the whole 12 night duration? We will have our own car for driving.
Thank you for any views.
Paul.

Definitely would make sense to move a bit more north to cut some driving time while out exploring the region.

While in Montalcino, you can explore the entire area of southern Tuscany, from Maremma to Arezzo up to Siena.

The next 6 days you could be anywhere in Chianti (which is between Siena and Florence) or closer to Florence - and from there explore west to Pisa and Lucca, San Gimignano and the entire Chianti area. If you have time, I'd also head into Casentino or Mugello areas :)
