3 Nights in Tuscany. Where do I stay?

My wife and I will be spending 3 nights in Tuscany next summer. We were going to stay in Cortona because wanted to see the exact same sights we saw in Under the Tuscan Sun. I heard it was not that great so we were thinking Siena. Can you recommend a good base to stay for first timers and some things to so in just a night period? Also I am wondering if I should get a car or just take the train?

Thanks so much in advance for your advice.

Staying in Cortona

Buongiorno,

Absolutey stay in or near Cortona - its wonderful! My sensation is you get a much more "authentic" Tuscan feel staying in this area as opposed to Siena (not to say Siena isn't beautiful!) There is so much to see that is not connected to the film, have a look through these articles to find out what else you may want to add to your itineary:

Thank you Donna! Do you recommend Cortona or one of the towns nearby> Do you recommend getting a car or traveling there by train?

Recommendations

Buongiorno,

I suggest you stay in Cortona - but look in the countryside around Cortona (stunning)

I also suggest a car, there is a train that runs fairly frequently (the stop is Camucia) but you will need to check with your accommodations if they there is easy access to public transport.

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise
