please help me with my itinerary

Based on this itinerary-
We are visiting italy for the first time in may end for 9 days. We will have two kids (7 and 4) with us and we want to ensure we get to see a lot but also kids enjoy. Could you please help look over our itinerary and throw suggestions:
-Day 1: Stay in a cheap central rome hotel (Any suggestions?) and do hop on hop off bus to tour Rome. I dont think kids will have patience to tour museums and stand in lines anywhere so this seemed like a good and quick way to get the feel of the city.
-Day 2-Take a train to chuisi and rent a car and head over to some agritourismo in tuscany.
Day 3-6: Visit various tuscany towns by car-Lucca, Pisa, Siena etc. (Please suggest which main towns we should pick for scenery, culture, forts etc)
-Day 7-Take a train to Cinque terra and visit one village. Is a train from tuscany 3 hours?? would you recommend this as a quick day trip just to see the beauty?
-Day 8-Take a train to Venice and stay for one night just to get the feel of the city. Not sure if there is much to do than one day there with kids.
-Day 9-Take a train back to Rome and do a quick tour of vatican city

I suggest that you take the train to Florence and pick up your car there.

As far as Cinque Terre, it is a bit out of the way and does take about 3 hours by train. It takes less by car, but winding roads with many turns have made my kids get carsick the last part there. So maybe drive to La Spezia, park and catch short train ride from there into the CT. Do they like to walk? The towns are small and connected by trains, but consider there are a lot of steps along the towns. The most characteristic are Vernazza and Manarola, but Monterosso is easier to manage since it is flatter.

Consider that the beauty of both CT and Venice is being there and walking around, looking at the extraordinary views and architecture. It might be enough for the older kid but not sure about the 4 year old. A night in Venice should be enough, consider train from Florence as it will be more direct.
