We will be traveling to Tuscany in May of 2019. We plan to stay 5 nights in the Montalcino area, as our base, then stay 2 nights in Siena and 2 nights in Florence. We will probably fly in and out of Rome. We want to visit the following towns while in Montalcino area: Montalcino,Orvieto, Pienza, Montalpulciano, San Quirico, and any other little village that strikes our fancy. On our way to Siena, we will spend the day in the Chianti region before going into Siena. The next day we will spend the entire day in Siena. After Siena, we will head to Florence for 2 nights before flying home.
Questions:
1.Has anyone hired a driver to take them from Rome airport to Orvieto where we could tour the town and pick up the rental car before heading to the Montalcino area where we will be staying for 5 days? Is this too much for the arrival day...we are flying into Rome from the USA. Suggestions?
2.Winery suggestions for reservations for meal with tastings at a winery in Chianti.
3.Hotel suggestions for Siena inside the walled city.....nice place, we are spoiled.
4.Additional suggestions welcome.
****Would it be better to start our journey in Florence....train from Rome airport or hire driver?

We are also spending 3 days in Florence plus two in the Tuscany country side. We are flexible on this itinerary. We wanted to figure out a plan so we can see cute little towns maybe visit Chianti or montepulciano and see wineries.(this is our main priority along with seeing the beautiful scenery). any suggestions? We will be renting a car to get around then from there heading to Cinque Terre without the car. We will be spending 3 days in Cinque Terre also would love any suggestions for there as well!
