Last minute trip - Help please

Hello Everyone

I have decided to do a late trip to Tuscany for my 40th birthday

I will be traveling alone and will not have a car

I want to base myself in Siena or Lucca. I will have 4 days so want to maximise my time. I love to walk, explore, visit quaint villages, hike, cafes, wine tours, attractions. I would like to do 1-2 tours when there - e.g - wine tasting, hiking, small hilltops etc - maybe Florence

Can you advise me on your tips and recommendations especially for solo traveler? Also, i would love to stay central in the city but somewhere with a lovely view/balcony. Any suggestions? Budget €100 max p/night

Can you advise which airport is most convenient to fly into (Florence is not an option) Rome, Bolonga or Pisa?

Thank you so much in advance

Yvonne

Let's start with the airport: Pisa would be the most convenient as it already is in Tuscany, transfer to either Siena or Lucca would be much easier than the other airports which would requite 1. airport shuttles to main train stations and then 2. train to Florence, before 3. heading to either Siena or Lucca.

Based on your likes of what you would like to do, I would recommend Siena as being more practical as a base so that you can do day trips out to the smaller towns nearby. You can either join up with organized groups or do them on your own. Here's a list of some day trips to plan for: https://www.discovertuscany.com/siena/what-to-do/day-trips-from-siena.html
I highly recommend a trip to Monteriggioni and San Gimignano.

I don't think you will have problems traveling solo, Tuscany is pretty safe and so are its towns. Lots of visitors, just stick to well light streets once it gets dark and where there are other people when out late.

As for places to stay, take a look at these: https://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/siena-city/
We've stayed at the Locando di San Martino and loved the view we had of the city from the window (next to last on this page).

ENJOY your birthday celebration!!
