Hello All!

Since it will be my first time in Italy this November, I'm looking to do a winery or vineyard tour close to Pratovecchio or Stia where I will be staying in a castle.

I can't seem to readily locate any tours, can anyone please help me? Preferably any tours under an hour of travel time from Pratovecchio.

Thank you! :)

I will have a look at what might be available but my first thought is that November is not quite the time for a cellar/vineyard tour as the harvest is over and this year's grapes are working away at producing wine which will be ready next year or beyond.

What might be much more interesting is the olive harvest and the first tasting of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil). If you have not yet tasted EVOO as soon as it has been pressed you have missed one of life's wonders. In Tuscany EVOO is usually harvested early to ensure an optimum quality. The oil is often dark green (over time it fades in colour and will tend towards a greeny yellow colour. But in November the taste is sublime and is somewhat spicy to the tongue. The French would call it pétillant which on the tongue is similar to sherbet. My experience of Tuscan EVOO dates to 1979 and come November there is nothing better than a slice of pane toscano covered with EVOO - perhaps with some cavolo nero which is just coming into season.

You can definitely still do winery tours and wine tastings, but are you looking for group tours you join in?
Most wineries in November will open on appointment, you need to contact them ahead of time and set up a time and day to visit.
Tours might be harder to find simply because many start in Florence where the group meets.
Or are you looking for local wineries and willing to book directly?

I agree with Craig and say November is a great month for the new olive oil being harvested and pressed. There are many festivals during the month focused solely on the fresh pressed olive oil, I just saw one in Reggello coming up I think the first weekend. When will you be here?

2018 is a very strange year both for grapes and olives.

In many places the grape harvest started very late - almost 20 days later than 2017. Fortunately climatic conditions means that things may work out. Equally, the olive harvest is also a bit late so timing is the key - especially with local festivals. The Reggello festival that Lourdes refres to may be a little early in terms of 2018 production.

I will be in Pratovecchio/Stia from November 25th - 27th. So any direct information for a winery/wine tour/tour we're able to jump onto coming from Florence/vineyard etc would be much appreciated :)

So you're open to either group tours or directly with the vineyard --

there are several tours from Florence that are still running in late November, for example this small group tour into Chianti.
You can see more here, also search by dates so you can see other types of tours:

As far as wineries in the area, I found:
Podere Bellosguardo: https://www.stradadelvino.arezzo.it/it/cantine/item/195-podere-bellosguardo.html - http://www.poderebellosguardo.it/
Agriturismo di Poppiena: http://www.agriturismopoppiena.it/i...dotto-toscana-piscina-pratovecchio-pinot-nero
Cantina Fregnan: http://cantinafregnan.it/ospitalita/
Frescobaldi: between Stia and Pontassieve, the company has 2 estates, Pomino and Nipozzano, that are gorgeous - check them out here - https://www.frescobaldi.com/visita-tenute/

Contact them directly to ask about a visit and wine tastings.

Wine in Pratovecchio & Stia

Buongiorno,

many people don't know (because it is a rather well-kept secret) but there is a vineyard in Pratovecchio and Stia. don't expect anything fancy and don't look for Sangiovese wines. But you can expect a good wine (pinot noir) and some friendly service.

You can try to What's App Federico at Podere Santa Felicità at +39 335 453 072. I have visited the vineyard and if you get a chance to have him show you around, I think you will find both his English and his story telling rather endearing.

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise
