Elba

Hello,
We would to visit Elba and the beaches while we are doing our 2 week tour of Tuscany, staying in Chianti and Val D'orcia.
What would be the best way to get to Elba and would it be a worthwhile trip to go there for some relaxing beach time?
Should the order of the trip be Chianti , Elba and then Val D'Orcia ? Os save it for the end? We just don't want a'lot of unnecessary travel and want to make the most of our days.

Thank you.

Buongiorno -

Elba is amazing! I have been a couple of times, and I particularly love the crystal clear waters (I am a diver and the SCUBA opportunities were amazing!)

I suggest you read through our articles dedicated to the beaches and the area of Elba:

A few suggestions:

BOOK everything in advance, especially in the summer - and that definitely means your ferry ride over (traghetto). It can be a madhouse on the weekends - so, maybe think about going over in the middle of the week.

If you can, stay where you don't need to use a car (a lot) it is a relatively small island and traffic can be trying. So, if you are within walking distance of many things it lowers the stress level. My colleagues have stayed here and really enjoyed it: https://www.discovertuscany.com/elba/hotel-ilio.html
other great ideas (and you can book direct avoiding agencies): http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/elba-island/

Look into a boat tour, seeing the island from the water is a special treat.

Make it your last stop on the vacation, definitely do Siena and Val d'Orcia side by side - in fact, they are right next door to each other and then head over to the island.

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise

Agree with Donna about doing it at the end of your stay, doing Siena, Chianti and Val d'Orcia first.

You don't mention when you're coming - if you haven't made up your mind yet, the best months for Elba are June and September!
July and August do get a bit crowded but they are manageable, there are lots of beaches and inlets all around the island ;-)
