Hi,
We are planning a 3-day trip to Tuscany & had the following questions:

We will arrive into Florence @ 2 pm ---- can we go see Pisa the same day & come back to Florence ?

The next day we'd like to rent a car & go to Chinati to tour the wineries, taste wine. Where should we rent the car from ? which wineries to visit

3rd day --- what areas/places to see in florence

Thank you for your replies !

ciao italyoct,

I'd recommend you spend your first afternoon/evening in Florence, I think you'd enjoy it much more than to rush off to see Pisa without seeing Florence first.

You can head to Pisa on the morning of your third day, that way you have control over how long you stay and can plan the rest of the day in Florence better.

There are many things to see in Florence - since your time is really limited, I recommend on your first evening just walking around in the area between the cathedral, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Repubblica. Visit Orsanmichele. Florence is small and walkable, everything is concentrated in a small area. I'd say to skip museums such as the Uffizi and Accademia and instead visit the cathedral, the baptistery, the Bargello museum or the Medici chapels... Santa Croce church is also like a museum with its many tombs and monuments to great Italians. These are wonderful places to visit but don't take as long, so you'll get a chance to see more than if you head into the bigger, more crowded museums (long lines and lots to see, you'd definitely rush through them and they'll lose their appeal). If you have time on your first evening, you could head toward Piazzale Michelangelo where you can enjoy an incredible panoramic view of Florence at sunset.

As for wineries to visit in Chianti, I recommend you look at these other threads for recommendations:

Have fun planning your trip! :)
