Train schedule for Certoldo Alto. Where can I go from there?

I will be in Certoldo Alto for 6 days on a pottery tour. My tour ends there, but I want to spend another 6 days or so in Tuscany. I will be traveling solo and by train. I fly out of Florence at the end of my stay. I cannot figure out how to view train timetables out of Certoldo. Trenitalia doesn't seem to recognize Certoldo Alto as a valid station.
I'm also looking for suggestions for places to stay besides Siena and Florence? I want to practice speaking Italian so I prefer a small town with fewer tourists. I'm leaning towards Cortona because I have stayed there before. I love all the long walks one can take outside of town. Ease of train travel is a high priority.
Thanks in advance.

Certaldo

Hi -

it can be frustrating with the spellings...no spell check on city names!

Cortona would be a lovely option, it is a bit more "touristy" and if you are looking to use the language ...well they might figure out you are an English speaker and try to help. You might want to think smaller towns - like Lucignano which is close to Cortona or head into the Casentino valley (try this link: http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/casentino/ ).

Montepulciano is another one of my favorite areas (http://www.tuscanyaccommodation.com/montepulciano/) . Not only does this give you a more country feel - but it takes you away from the Certaldo area which you just spent a week in.

Buon Viaggio
