Hi,

I am planning a trip to tuscany mid july for 4 nights (fri night - tuesday day) and would love to include the following:

- trip to vineyard in chianti area
-florence
-Pisa

I wondered if someone could recommend where would be best to stay and get around?

Ideally I was going to fly into Pisa then hopefully stay in the at a vineyard (recommendations welcome!) then head to florence for the following two nights.

Would it be best to hire a car to get the the rural areas or is it all viable through local transport?

Any tips/ advice would be great appreciated.

Thanks

Fiesole

If you go to Florence don't miss to visit the town of Fiesole, just few minutes away from Florence. Fiesole is an idillic town where the actor Roberto Beningni and Massimo Troisi (a famous died italiano actor) filmed "non ci resta che piangere" a great comedy that had a massive success in Italy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_Left_to_Do_But_Cry). Go for a walk in the small streets of Fiesole and ask for the best restaurant to have your "Fiorentina", I really think it is the best place in all tuscany where you can eat the real Fiorentina.

Wineyards in Tuscany

Buongiorno,

In July I would encourage you to stay in the countryside where you can make the best use of the warm (hot) weather, the panoramic pools and sunsets. In this case you will definitely want to have a car.

Check out these two places which are on a wineyard and are centrally located for day trips to Pisa and Florence:

However, if this is a romantic trip ;-) then you should also check out:

Lucca, drivers, trains, spa

Hello - my family - two adults and a teenage son - will be staying in Lucca for four nights. We'd love to visit a thermal spa -- any suggestions? Also wondering if it is easy and affordable to hire a driver vs using train -- in general, any suggestions about getting around and nearby spas would be great. Thanks!

Whether it is affordable to rent a car with driver vs train really depends on WHERE you want to go. Generally, the car with driver is best to consider when you are going off the beaten path, and depend on trains for the more general destinations, such as other city centers. In general, I would plan to use train and only get the driver (or join a tour group) for those areas that are harder to reach. Chianti, for example, is a place hard to reach without your own car so in that case, you could depend on a tour, such as this one: https://www.partner.viator.com/en/8357/tours/Lucca/Chianti-Afternoon-Tour-from-Lucca/d22436-5919P210
Here are other tours in and from Lucca: https://www.partner.viator.com/en/8357/search/lucca

As far as thermal spa, the closest to Lucca are San Giuliano Terme and Bagni di Lucca. You can reach Bagni di Lucca with combo train and bus or just bus from Lucca: https://goo.gl/maps/MEycqNCpa1M2
San Giuliano Terme is easier to reach with just train: https://goo.gl/maps/156L47w9F4o
Further away but just as beautiful, the spas in Montecatini Terme - read more about them here: http://www.discovertuscany.com/itineraries-in-tuscany/thermal-itineraries-tuscany.html
