Self Guided Bicycle Tour
Four of us from California are wanted to set up a self guided tour of Tuscany on bikes for 3 or 4 days. We don't want to hire a tour guide or company for this - we want to do it ourselves. Are there established routes that are easy to discover or does anyone have suggestions on interesting routes through the region. We will start in one place and ride 40 to 50 miles and stay in another place and to the same for 4 days - not returning each night to the same place. Maybe we would consider a loop that would take 3 to 4 days.

Biking on your own
Buongiorno,
If you are looking for marked trails in Tuscany - you might want to look at the via Francigena which has clearly marked trails that are suitable also for biking.
There are lots of trails for hiking, but for biking not as many... :-(
Only looking at distances and places with alternate roads (not major highways) - you could look at something like this:
Greve in Chianti - Castellina
Castellina - Siena
Siena - Asciano - Buonconvento
Buonconvento (look at SP146 instead of the main highway to Buonconvento) - Siena
You could use public transport from Florence to Greve and then from Siena to Florence.
Buon Viaggio,
Donna Denise
