Overnight between Venice and Rome

Hello :) Advice please. In September, we are dropping our friends at Venice airport at 130pm on a Friday then driving to Rome with a night in Tuscany. We have been to Florence, Siena, San Gimnignano etc last time and this time we are just interested in Val d’Orca region. Is it too ambitious to drive To Montepulciano to arrive before dark? Then we have the whole day there and drive to Rome for dinner the next day (flying out Sunday).

Thank you!

Not ambitious at all, you can definitely drive down in a little less than 4 hours taking the A13 and then A1 down to Montepulciano.
You will still arrive before dark but practically in time to check in wherever you are staying and prepare for dinner.... since you have the rest of the day to then see the area, I think you can do it.
I suggest spending the evening in Montepulciano itself, then the following day head toward Pienza, San Quirico and then Montalcino (and the abbey at Sant'Antimo). Anything else will have to be quick stops along the way as you head south -- you could go through Radicofani to see the castle there ;-).
