Cinque Terre - which village to stay in??

Hi everyone
My wife & I have a trip through Italy in early April & we are planning to spend 2 nights in Cinque Terre.
We have accommodation options in Vernazza (La Mala - a tad more expensive but looks good on their website) and Corniglia (an apartment found on homeaway). My questions are....
1. Any recommendations on one village over another (we are a couple in our early 50's looking for good food, coffee and scenery)
2. Any recommendations for restaurants or activities in these villages?
3. Are the walking trails all repaired as yet?
4. Any other hints for an enjoyable visit?

Buongiorno,

One of my favorite things to do in Cinque Terre was to take the boat taxi at least once between the towns. It allows you to see the coast from a totally new and enchanting perspective.

Everyone does the trails and trains (which you SHOULD do) but be sure to add the boat taxi to your list.
