Round trip in Tuscany

We are visiting Tuscany in October with our family (my husbands parents and our two year old toddler). We have six days and will start from Florence (arrive in the morning). I have planned to stay 2 days/2nights there, then we´ll rent a car and continue to Chianti (via Chiantigana). Next two nights we would stay somewhere near Castellina in Chianti, explore the countryside and make a day trip to Siena (Rada - Gaiole - Siena - back to base) and after that, on our 5th day we should continue, but I´m not very confident about my plan. I thought that it would be nice to drive to the coast (through San Gimignano), and stay 2 nights near the beach, maybe make a day trip to Pisa and Lucca, and spend one day just enjoying the sea and relax before leaving back to Florence and drop the car but I don´t know is there a beautiful spot, old fishermans village/historic town (and surroundings) that would be worth visiting (spending two nights) somewhere between Cecina(?) and Lucca (as Cinque Terre and coast of Maremma would probably be too far?). I´m opened to all kind of ideas, wouldn´t mind skipping Pisa and Lucca this time and make it another trip in the future with Cinque Terre (we can drive to other directions from Chianti) - maybe you would have some suggestions for 2 days, 2 nights. I´d prefer that the 2nd day would be more relaxed and no long drives, as after those 2 days there will be whole day for returning back to Florence (might be long drive, dropping the car and taking train to Milan and flight back home). Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

I just happened to read an article about Quercianella and Castiglioncello (I hadn't even heard about them before), but they seem to be beautiful places and I would consider to stay in/near one of those for those 2nights (and they're not too far from Pisa and Lucca, if we feel that we would like to make that daytrip).

Buongiorno,

I like your itinerary. Keep it slow so you can enjoy and not push the toddler or his parents into too much activity.

Personally in October, I would stay more in Tuscany maybe heading down towards Arezzo or Montepulciano catching all the colors in the vineyards and the beautiful views.

Have a look at this article of events in October - it might inspire you to change directions :) Though most are dates for 2015 - a lot of these events are recurring events normally on the same weekend.
