What a great website!! We are staying for a week in Montecatini Alto and are looking for day trip advice. We will be starting the trip with two days in Florence and have already visited Pisa, Lucca and Cinque Terre on past trips. Any new destination suggestions would be appreciated. We do have a car and are not limited to the train or bus schedule. Thank you so much!!

Pistoia

Buongiorno,

This is the year to add Pistoia! It has been crowned the Italian city of Culture for 2017 and they will be organising many fun activities. We will be publishing more on the events soon - when are you arriving ?

Besides the new events, Pistoia is a wonderful little town to explore and easily reached by train. Read our articles on what to expect while visiting Pistoia.

Another place that would make a fascinating day trip from Montecatini, is the Garfagnana area. Picturesque, authentic and delicious  . Read here for a suggested itinerary in the the Garfagnana.

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise

I would most definitely add SIENA as well as SAN GIMIGNANO to your possible list of day trips, heading down to VOLTERRA on the same day as SG if you have the time. How many days total do you have? What period of the year will you be visiting?

I drive through Chianti wine region would also make a great day trip, stopping in Certaldo, San Donato in Poggio, Castellina, Panzano, Radda -- just as examples ;-).
