Hi,

We are a family of five and will be visiting tuscany in late Sep (23 Sep - 26 Sep).

We are planning to pick up rental car from La Spezia (after visiting Cinque Terre) and drive along Tuscany before returning the car at Orvieto or Orte. Plan to stay 3 nights in Tuscany before heading to Amalfi Coast.

We are interested to visit Chianti, Siena and Val D'Orcia (Montalcina, Montepulciano and Pienza).

For accommodation, we are thinking of choosing somewhere in between as a base for 3 nights or maybe one night in Chianti and 2 nights around Val D'Orcia. Hoping to stay in a winery with nice tuscan countryside view but also close to nice restaurant for dinner (hoping that we don't need to drive out at night).

For itinerary:

23 Sep (Sat): Drive from La Spezia to Chianti. Should we drive straight to Chianti and spend the whole day there or are there any places that we must visit along the drive? What are the must visit places in Chianti region, wineries and restaurants recommendations? Stay overnight in Chianti or drive down to Siena/Montepulciano?

24 Sep (Sun): Depending on where we base, we are planning to visit Siena and nearby region. Any must visit places around here? Also, wineries and restaurant recommendations? (stay in Montepulciano or nearby?)

25 Sep (Mon): Visit Val D'Orcia. Any must visit places, wineries and restaurant recommendations? Overnight in Montepulciano or nearby.

26 Sep (Tue): Drive to Orte or Orvieta to return rental car and take train to naples (and transfer to Amalfi Coast). Is it advisable to drive to rome or even naples straight? We will be heading to Amalfi Coast.

Any thermal spring nearby places that we are visiting? Also, understand that it is truffle season, any recommendation for truffle hunting activities and any local market that we can visit during these 3 days?

Any advise is much appreciated! Thanks!!

Buongiorno,

As for your question about Truffles - you might want to read this article which will give you a few pointers:

And as for thermal baths, you can definitely work your itinerary to take you by Bagno San Filippo.
