Second visit to Tuscany

Looking to get some ideas on places to visit on our second trip to Tuscany. We are staying at Agriturismo Poggiacolle outside of San Gimignano. On our last visit we covered Florence, Sienna, Volterra, Pisa, Montepulciano and Monteriggioni. Hoping to find some "smaller" more quaint places to visit this time around. I have been doing a lot of reading but would like some personal opinions from folks who have been to some new places. We will be there this time for six days. Thanks in advance.

When are you coming? You can head toward the coast and explore the smaller towns along the coast, including heading into the "Etruscan Coast" and the Maremma areas. There are some spectacular towns hidden in the area south of Volterra ;-). Tell me when you're coming and I can give more specific areas. Will you have a car?

Yes, we will have a car. We will arrive to our agriturismo late afternoon on September 9th and leave the morning of September 15th to head to the Lake Como area.

Buongiorno,

Some of my favorite areas are south of Siena, in the Val d'Orcia and ValdiChiana area. Besides great wine and views, this area has a tendency to be less touristy and holds a wonderful atmosphere of Tuscany.

Last summer I spent quite a bit of time exploring parts of the Maremma, especially an area called Montecucco. This is an itinerary that I documented which you might enjoy (https://www.discovertuscany.com/maremma/what-to-see/montecucco-itinerary.html) and this article talks about the wine from this zone: https://www.discovertuscany.com/iti...da-del-vino/montecucco-maremma-wine-road.html

Another area, where I have spent quite a bit of time, is Casentino - a lovely valley between Arezzo and Florence which houses beautiful churches, castles and monasteries. This area is not touristy at all and you will find that the restaurants are very classical with authentic menus.

Buon Viaggio,

Donna Denise
