WWOOFing in San Miniato - what to do during free time?

Hello! I am a single female traveler who will be visiting in mid September, and it is my first time in Italy.
I arrive in Pisa on a weekend and would like to take advantage of the two days I have in and around the Pisa area before I go into San Miniato to work on the vineyard.
I have considered visiting Lucca for one day, and spending one day in Pisa.
I am considering renting a car so that I have ease of travelling with my belongings. Is this a good idea? I drive regularly in a suburb in Canada.
Any suggestions on things to do (I am flexible and would be happy with anything!) is much appreciated!

Vacation before work

Buongiorno,

That is a great idea - however, if I were you, I would stay in Pisa and take a train to Lucca. Skip getting the car right away, get it when you head over to San Miniato.

Lucca can fill a full day and you don't need a car to get about because the train station is just minutes from one of the entrances into the city. Just enjoying the more relaxed atmosphere in Lucca is really worth the day.

Many people just skip right over what Pisa has to offer, and a full day will probably give you a few special surprises - maybe check out a walking tour??
