Default ideas for special 40th birthday

    Hi everyone,

We will be visiting Tuscany for my husband's 40th birthday. I'm hoping to make his day as special as possible - but would really appreciate any ideas/input.

As yet I have no itinery or accomodation booked, we will be visiting with my 5 year old daughter on the 20th July. My husband loves food and drink, picturesque settings, the sea.

I am thinking of checking in at a lovely hotel on his birthday, wine tasting and a great meal with views, and booking opera. - I just don't know where to start! Possibly Chianti. We will have a car so can get to places.

Really really appreciate any recommendations for places to stay, where to have a lovely meal, places for wine tasting and any other ideas!

    Thank you!

    Ria

Well the first thing to consider is the annual Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago - https://www.puccinifestival.it/en/

If the main thing about the celebration will be the opera, then you have to decide what and where depending on what's available.

As Craig has suggested, the Puccini Festival has Madame Butterfly on the 20th, while in Florence there is the Barber of Seville at the Pitti Palace (part of the summer schedule for the Opera di Firenze - https://www.operadifirenze.it/stagione-estiva-2017/).

Estate Fiorentina and Estate Fiesolona are summer events programs for Florence and Fiesole that add lots of concerts, plays, and more to the possibilities, I didn't check to see what's happening on the 20th but you might find something else to add on another day, if the dates don't match up.

How about a very special dinner at the Leggenda dei Frati? It is Michelin starred and your 5 year old might also appreciate dressing up for the meal. It is on a hill so a taxi ride up is recommended
