Castles near Siena
Hello!
We will be basing ourselves in Siena Jan 4-7 with a wine tour on Jan 5. We would love to see a castle while we are there. Do you have any suggestions for visiting one without needing to rent a vehicle?
Thank you,
Jane

There are many castles around Siena, are you thinking of castles that form part of a wine estate and that way also do some wine tasting at the same time? or are you interested in visiting the castle, as in a museum sort of visit? there are not many open like that, if they are private they are still in use, but there are several public ones that can be visited. Not all will be easy without a car, however.
So general castles/towns that you can visit with bus transport:
- Monteriggioni - a small medieval hamlet, with its walls still in place. Not really a castle but similar.
- Staggia - you can reach by bus
- Volterra - the whole town is worth a day trip! read my must-see recommendations: https://www.discovertuscany.com/volt...-volterra.html
Mmm, I'm coming up with others but not sure if easy to reach with bus.
So with wine tour you might already visit a castle.... are you interested in the Brolio castle? you can see it on this tour:
