The luxury Villa di Ulignano was built at the beginning of the XVII century upon request of the Grand Duke's Navy Admiral, Jacopo Inghirami. This Tuscan villa is a precious example of early Mannerist architecture in Tuscany by the remarkable Florentine architect Gherardo Silvani. During the years many famous people have visited the villa; legend has it that even Napoleon Bonaparte stayed there while he was traveling around Italy and two rooms named after him serve as remembrance of the grand event.
In the mid '60s this unique villa near Volterra was discovered by the famous Italian film director Luchino Visconti while is was searching for the perfect location for his new movie “Vaghe Stelle dell'Orsa”. He felt in love with the magical atmosphere of the Ulignano property and recommended it to his friend, the producer Franco Cristaldi, when he was looking for a new home. Since then, Villa di Ulignano has become the Tuscan hideaway for many actors, directors and film producers of the Italian film industry.
