Special Reopening of Vasari Corridor in Florence Italy

Yesterday we had news regarding the official re-opening of the Vasari Corridor this April, closed just last February for a restoration project that is supposed to last years.

A trial period from April through June was announced which will see the reinstatement of the striking “Percorso del Principe“, or Prince’s Itinerary. The itinerary will lead visitors from Palazzo Vecchio to the Boboli Gardens passing over Ponte Vecchio along the Vasari Corridor passageway, an itinerary available to the public from 1997 through 2003. Easter is coming soon. And we have information to share with you on what to do and what to see in Florence and Tuscany next weekend.

Most of the museums in Florence will be open on Easter Sunday and Monday (April 4 and 5). In particular some State Museums are “extraordinarily” open such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Gallery which are generally closed on Mondays. The Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens, the San Marco Museum, Medici Chapels, Bargello Museum and Palazzo Davanzati will all be open. Read Full Post »

As usual there will take place the wonderful FAI di Primavera. The event is organized by Fondo Italiano per l’Ambiente (FAI – Italian Fund for Environment), a no-profit organization preserving and promoting Italian cultural heritage, and will open to public almost 600 Italian hidden treasures. Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit an extraordinary hidden art collection of the Uffizi Gallery. Thanks to a special initiative of the cultural association Amici degli Uffizi (Friends of the Uffizi) during March you have the chance to visit the precious and unknown Contini Bonacossi Collection that has unique masterpieces. On March 8th we celebrate the International Women’s day, that is the perfect opportunity to visit Florence. Many events and parties will take place in Florence, as well as all around Italy. Don’t miss out on initiatives organized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, that on Saturday 6 March and Sunday 7 March 2010 offers free entrance tickets for women to all State museums, archeological parks and monuments.
